GREEN TECHNOLOGY
What is GREEN TECHNOLOGY ???
The term "technology" refers to the application of knowledge for practical purposes.The field of "green technology" encompasses a continuously
evolving group of methods and materials, from techniques for generating
energy to non-toxic cleaning products.The present expectation is that this field will bring
innovation and changes in daily life of similar magnitude to the
"information technology" explosion over the last two decades. In these
early stages, it is impossible to predict what "green technology" may
eventually encompass.Or Green
Technology is the development and application of products, equipment and
systems used to conserve the natural environment and resources, which
minimize and reduces the negative impact of human activities.
The Main Function
* Promote policies to support the development of green technology innovation and green technology to control and manage the potential risks and
* Provide a legal framework to support the development of green technology
Strategy
* Promotion and development of effective renewable energy in the energy and water sectors;
* Promotion and implementation of effective energy efficiency programs in the energy and water sectors;
* Create employment opportunities related to green technology;
* Creating opportunities for green technology-related economic activities;
* Reorientate existing industries for green technology practice;
* Development of R & D strategy in green technology towards commercialization of the local market;
* The increase in human capital development in green technology, and
* Establishment of strategic alliances with key stakeholders and relevant
The goals that inform developments in this rapidly growing field include
"Cradle to cradle" design - ending the "cradle to grave" cycle of manufactured products, by creating products that can be fully reclaimed or re-used.
Source reduction - reducing waste and pollution by changing patterns of production and consumption.
Innovation - developing alternatives to technologies - whether fossil fuel or chemical intensive agriculture - that have been demonstrated to damage health and the environment.
Viability - creating a center of economic activity around technologies and products that benefit the environment, speeding their implementation and creating new careers that truly protect the planet.
Advantages Of Green Technology
Money Saving
Although the up-front costs for green technologies are often higher, the lifetime savings are significant. Green technologies are designed to use resources efficiently, which usually leads to financial savings for the owner. With a green building, you can see big savings in utility bulls. Geothermal systems, for example, use up to 50 percent less electricity than standard systems for heating and cooling. Small wind systems, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), can cut your electricity bills by up to 90 percent.Tax Incentives
Green buildings, both commercial and residential, are eligible for government tax credits. For new residential construction, homeowners can receive a credit of 30 percent of the cost of installing environmentally-friendly technologies including geothermal, photovoltaic cells, solar water heaters and small wind systems. You can also claim tax credits for building homes with demonstrated energy savings: $1,000 for 30 percent and $2,000 for 50 percent. For commercial buildings, owners can receive deductions of up to $1.80 per square foot when if saving at least 50 percent on energy for heating and cooling.Environmental Benefits
One of the most obvious benefits to building with green technology is the environmental impact. Green technology helps reduce emissions, conserves water, reduces waste and consumes less energy than conventional technology. Green buildings also use materials more efficiently. Over 20 years, a single solar water heater can keep over 50 tons of carbon dioxide emissions out of the atmosphere; geothermal pumps reduce emissions by up to 70 percent and use up to 50 percent less electricity.Lifetime and Property Value
With proper maintenance, green technologies can have long lifetimes. Geothermal systems, for example, can have warranties of up to 50 years for underground pipes and 20 years for pumps. A small wind system can last up to 20 years. According to the City of Bloomington, Ind., green technologies can increase property value because they require little maintenance and save money. This is particularly useful for commercial property owners or rental managers.By: Syahieran Al-Fateh ^_^
